oral cancer. My personal journey

My taste seems to be coming back a little. Food doesn't taste like it should, but most of it does have some taste. I had oat meal cooked with raisins yesterday. I used fortified milk and a generous amount of honey, and it tasted pretty good. I experimented with other foods during the course of the day. Olives had a flavor but it was different from what I remembered. I had shrimp with cocktail sauce and could taste the cocktail sauce just barely. I am hoping that this is a begining and that things will steadily improve. I have been making myself eat 1000 or more calories a day even if it doesn't taste good. The other 1400 comes through the tube. That ends up being roughly four eight ounce cans a day. I have talked to other folks who didn't have the tube installed and for the most part they aren't doing well with their weight. It is really hard to force yourself to eat when all food tastes unpleasent. Actually the tube is not that unpleasant. I am certainly glad that I chose to have it and would highly recommend it to others.
I sent an email to the hypnotherapist today asking her for another session. I am not ready to give up on that yet. My returning taste may be because of the hypnosis.
I feel wonderful. I have told people that I have never felt better both physically and mentally. My ears are still a little plugged. My taste is still way off. My mouth gets terribly dry from about 3:00 AM until I get up, and my throat is still a little sore and swollen. None of this stuff gets in the way of the joy that I feel every day. I have been blessed and I know it. I still live in today. Tomorrow will take care of itself
