a perfect storm

WOW! What a storm! three days of heavy winds and rain. We must have had eight or ten inches of rain. I walked through the back yard today and sank up to my ankles on several occasions. The ground is that saturated.
We went to bed about 11;00 last night. Our bedroom is located under some big pine trees. The wind was steadily blowing at near hurricane force. We were thinking that we should get out of the bedroom so we moved to the couches in the center of the house and tried to sleep there. Somehow we never lost power. It did flicker a couple of times but came right back. I moved the generator from the shed to the garage in case it is needed. It is 4:00pm on the third day. The winds are gradually diminishing but are blowing steadily at 20 mph.
I went to the marina today expecting to see extensive damage but found none. The tide rose several feet but the wind was straight from the north and the land absorbed most of the energy. The boaters were very lucky.
A friend called this morning to ask if I would come to their house and cut up a pine that had fallen across their driveway so I did that. Pat and I also went to our old neighborhood which is in the lower end of the county. We had to drive through a mile of flooded roads to get in there. There has been no power there since 11:00 am yesterday. Fortunately the temperatures have remained in the mid fifities so people have stayed relatively warm.
We saw very few downed trees. Hurricanes Isabelle and Ernesto did a good job of getting rid of dangerous trees. We may escape this storm unscathed if we can make it a few more hours as the winds subside.

elections are near

Once again I am enjoying hating all of the political ads. Each candidate calls the other a low life corrupt horse thief who has at one time or another sold all of the female members of his family in to prostituition. If all of the various allegations are true perhaps prison would be better for each of these candidates than public office. Amen?
